This past week I watched a television program about Steve Largent.

Steve overcome adversity in his personal life by focusing on football.

He came from a family in which his father left the family when he was six and his step-father was an alcoholic.

Steve played football for the Houston Oilers and Seattle Seahawks in the NFL.

He also was elected and served in the U.S. House of Representatives for the State of Oklahoma.

Steve was considered too small and too slow to be a wide-receiver in professional football.

Yet when he retired in 1989, he held ALL the NFL major records for a receiver including: most receptions in a career (819), most receiving yards in a career (13,089), and most touchdown receptions (100).

He was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1995.

One of the things that made Steve Largent so successful was his focus.

He ran precise passing routes.  He also had a unique focus on the watching footballs thrown to him.  Most receivers focus on the WHOLE football when it is in the air.

Steve Largent focused on the TIP of the football instead of the whole football.

A much harder thing to do, but a technique that allowed him to rarely, if ever, drop a pass thrown to him.

So what is your edge of changing your focus?

Is there some aspect of your life, with your career, your family, or your relationships with others in which you need a more precise, a more detailed focus?   Somewhere where you now need to look precisely at the tip? Or an edge?

Or you do you need to instead broaden your focus from a precise to a bigger picture point of view?  A place where you can focus on the view from 10,000 feet?

Can you change your focus to overcome some adversity you are currently facing in you own life?

Here comes the football.  Look at the TIP and catch it…
