There are many of us who can empathize with Bilbo Baggins. The poor hobbit just wanted to stay home, safe in his hobbit hole, and instead got roped into an epic journey to take back a stolen treasure from a villainous dragon. If you haven’t picked up the book in a while, today is the perfect day to relive the adventure! “The Hobbit, or There and Back Again” by J. R. R. Tolkien was published on this day in 1937. Since then the novel has been adapted many, many times, for stage, radio, board games, video games, and, of course, the silver screen. “The Hobbit” has never been out of print, and rightfully so! While it can easily be said that Tolkien’s writing style was overly descriptive at times (how many ways can you say a hill was green, anyway?), there is simply no excuse for not reading it. It’s never too late to join the adventure!
