Drinking water out of a bottle is so last year. Now there’s a new way to hydrate – Ooho, the edible water blob. Alright, that doesn’t sound appetizing, but bear with us. The Ooho, which just won a $22,500 European sustainability award, is made by freezing a blob of water, then coated with a brown algae and calcium chloride dual membrane. Just bit the blob and you’re done! The membrane is even edible, although we’re not sure how good it would taste. However, it is biodegradable, making it a possible bottle alternative. Not only that, the packaging is significantly cheaper than traditional plastic bottles. If this really takes off, could this be the future of plastic packaging entirely?
