All the single ladies! (All the single ladies.) Have we got a holiday for you. Today is Singles’ Day, or Guanggun Jie, a day celebrated in China each year on 11/11 for the folks out there who are single and ready to mingle (or not). This particular day was chosen as each digit, with the exception of the year, is one. One, they say, is the loneliest number, but the holiday is meant to encourage single people to hang out with their single friends. Blind dates are pretty common on this day. Maybe people are hoping that, come next Singles’ Day, they won’t have a reason to celebrate.
